Special Events

We’re delighted to offer a number of special events at the Congress—some scientific, some social, and some a blend of both! So come for the science but stay for the fun, and join us as we reconnect in St. John’s.

Be sure to check this page often as we’ll be adding more details and more events in the weeks to come. Some special events will require registration (free). Registration link will be sent to CMOS registered delegates.

Beach Clean-up
Monday, May 29 | 08:30 – 11:30

You will be bussed to Topsail Beach, approximately 30 minutes from downtown, near Conception Bay. We will be tracking what we collect using the Marine Debris Tracker app, which be incorpoated into larger marine plastics study with CLEAR.

Ice Breaker Event: Trivia Night

Hike to the Village of Quidi Vidi
Sunday, May 28 | 15:30 – 18:00

Choose one of two self-guided walking/hiking trails to the Quidi Vidi Brewery in the picturesque coastal village of Quidi Vidi. Go for an easy walk from the hotel past Quidi Vidi Lake to the Brewery (about 30-45 minutes), or go for a more moderate hike that also takes you around Signal Hill (about 1.5 hours). Either way, you’ll end up at the Quidi Vidi Brewery where you can enjoy a seaside beer and will have the option to hop the CMOS bus back to the hotel at 18:00. The Brewery is providing a $1 discount on beer to delegates who show their badge on Sunday afternoon.
